I pulled into Goshen Stadium as the Cornwall Dragons hosted the Minisink Valley Warriors for the Section IX Class A Championship game. It was a beautiful spring day and brought on a different feel to our normal Friday Night Lights. But, the Cornwall Dragons didn’t let that bring the different feeling to the field.
The energy by Cornwall was felt & from the moment they stepped onto the field they carried that fire with them. With only 3 minutes into the game Cornwall was posting 7 on the board. A pass to Derek Marrero brought the Dragons to an early lead. Going into half we were 14-0 thanks to a Dan Brubacher TD & with 2 quarters left anything could happen. Walking through the tunnel, Cornwall was ready to bring home that trophy for the tenth time.
As the fourth quarter came the score was 21-0, and that’s when lights out happened with 20 of the 41 total points being scored. Ryan Krafft was an absolute beast the entire game, making beautiful offensive plays but didn’t go unnoticed on the defensive side. A Chicago Bears, The Fridge, type play for Orlando Carthens to score a TD with a pass from Diamond. And, a fumble recovery by John Brady. That fumble created by #18 Andre Hedgemond (scroll to the end of football series photos, Andre was gunning for that quarterback, an impressive hit). That brought Cornwall to 41-0 and a trophy to bring home.. TEN straight Section IX Class A Titles!!
