The Washingtonville Lady Wizards traveled to Newburgh Free Academy last Friday to face the Lady Goldbacks of NFA. Kymane Jones (19) and Danielle Deoul (17) lead Washingtonville in scoring for the victory. Contributing for the Wizards was Briana Monroe who added 12 points for Washingtonville (3-1). “We knew we had to come out strong to beat Newburgh, and we did,” Washingtonville coach James Steeves said. Washingtonville amassed an amazing 17 steals in the game to put a damper on any comeback staged by Newburgh. Turnovers were commonplace in this game as the Lady Goldbacks also burglarized with 15.
It was a very exciting game, both teams charged up and down the court with many wrestling matches on the floor. Alaysia Walters had 20 points and 14 rebounds for Newburgh. Miranda Walsh also contributed scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds. Newburgh evened their record (1-1).
The Lady Wizards dominated the paint Tuesday night as they handed Saugerties High a pre-season loss on the road. Kymane Jones and Eve Merrigan led the lady Wizards in scoring with 15 points each. Danielle Deoul added 13 points with Briana Monroe contributing 11 points with 11 rebounds.

October 31: Section IX Class A Title at Marlboro at High School
The Cornwall Lady Dragons lost a hard fought 1-0 battle with Goshen High School at Marlboro High School last Saturday in front of a pack house of supporters on both sides. But not for a deflection in front of the Cornwall net the game was evenly played. Cornwall defeated Goshen earlier in the season 5-1. However, they could not duplicate that score in the Section IX final.
